Julia Nelson (she/her/hers) joins the OFRF crew because the Summer time 2024 Coverage & Advocacy Intern. Julia is a present MS pupil on the Tufts Friedman Faculty of Diet Science & Coverage, learning Agriculture, Meals, and the Surroundings. She obtained her BA from Colby Faculty, the place she studied Environmental Coverage and Anthropology. She beforehand labored to broaden native meals programs in Maine, first because the Operations Supervisor for a foodtech startup that gives an internet platform for wholesale consumers to buy instantly from native farmers. Following that have, she served because the Gleaning & Native Procurement Coordinator for an anti-hunger group, facilitating the rescue and buy, in addition to the processing and distribution, of (literal) tons of native produce for meals entry programming. After finishing her graduate research, she hopes to work on meals & agriculture coverage and is particularly thinking about regional meals provide chains, values-based procurement, and the intersections between vitamin and sustainability. Outdoors of labor and college, she enjoys spending weekends operating, snowboarding, and browsing round New England, in addition to cooking scrumptious dinners with family and friends.
