Desktop Metallic has introduced the qualification of a recycled nickel-based superalloy to be used on its binder jet 3D printers.
The additive manufacturing firm says the Mar-M247 powder, processed with proprietary expertise from Continuum Powders, is now categorised amongst 40 metals and ceramics in Desktop Metallic’s materials portfolio as ‘R&D Certified.’ This means it has accomplished preliminary testing for compatibility, and printing and sintering profiles are underneath last growth. The fabric can be utilized on Desktop Metallic’s X25Pro binder jet 3D printer, and is alleged to be appropriate for functions requiring excessive energy at elevated temperatures of as much as 1000°C.
“We see a shiny future for high-quality, sustainable powder choices for our additive manufacturing applied sciences,” says Ric Fulop, CEO of Desktop Metallic. “Having a certified 100% reclaimed metallic powder from Continuum Powders is only a first step in what we hope is an extended line of recycled, eco-conscious supplies that supply a big return on funding.”
Continuum Powders is a producer of high-performance, sustainable metallic powders, and its Greyhound M2P expertise is a single-step course of which may convert metallic by-products into recycled powders for manufacturing. A portfolio firm of Ara Companions, a non-public fairness agency specialising in industrial decarbonisation investments, Continuum’s platform is alleged to ship high-quality spherical metallic powders whereas contributing to decarbonisation and sustainability. Earlier this yr, it grew to become the first 100% recycled metallic powder supplier to have an alloy certified to be used on Velo3D’s Sapphire 3D printers, and final month was named by Knust-Godwin as its unique metallic powders supplier for a challenge supporting a big oil and gasoline buyer.
“The truth that we’re seeing reclaimed metallic powders validated by Desktop Metallic, together with different main AM OEMs, indicators that these supplies are actually a confirmed useful resource for producers,” says Continuum Powders’ CEO Rob Higby. “Use of recycled powders can shorten provide chains, cut back prices and help company objectives for carbon footprint discount.”
